The Blizzard's Chris Metzen retired from the video game industry in the year, aged 42. It was surprising for one who was instrumental in the creation of several beloved franchises like World of Warcraft, Starcraft, and World of Warcraft. At the time of his retirement, Metzen was the senior vice head of the development of stories and franchises and for many people, was the persona of Blizzard.
In an interview with World of Warcraft of The Instance (via Eurogamer), Metzen talked to host Scott Johnson about why he quit the company that he'd been working for over two years.

"Leaving Blizzard was an incredibly difficult experience," Metzen explained. "I'd worked there from the time basically, when I was a child. I believe that I turned 19 at the time I was hired, and for the rest of all my life. It became my first name. And in numerous ways, it was overwhelming. It was simply amazing and yet there's an expense when you work this hard."Metzen also spoke about the time prior to the release of the first person shooter from Blizzard Entertainment World of Warcraft, which like a phoenix, emerged from the rubble of a game that was cancelled and referred to in the form of Project Titan. It was thought as the next major game in the MMO market but, after seven years of development it was pulled. Metzen states that the program "burned out extremely intensely" in those seven times.

"I believe in my heartthat I was in need of a transformation in my lifestyle," He said. "I would like to take a break and take the burden off of everything.
