The wait for the full release of Path of Exile 2 is nearly over. Grinding Gear Games has confirmed that Version 1.0 will launch on December 12, giving players a firm date after the game's extended Early Access period. Those already studying Path of Exile 2 Currency and planning their future builds can expect a substantial package of new content rather than a simple transition out of Early Access.
The announcement arrived during Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 26. Alongside the release date, Grinding Gear Games revealed the new Duellist class and confirmed that Acts 5 and 6 will be included in Version 1.0. The game will also move to a free-to-play live-service model with optional monetization.
A Full Release Is Finally Set
Path of Exile 2 first entered Early Access in December 2024. The development team has used that period to refine the game's mechanics, balance, and content.
After several delays, the studio has now committed to December 12.
For players who have followed development closely, the confirmed date represents a major moment. For new players, it means the game will be much closer to the complete experience originally envisioned by Grinding Gear Games.
Introducing the Duellist
The Duellist is the new class arriving with Version 1.0. Built around sword combat, the character uses wide attacks and elemental abilities.
The new trailer demonstrates the class in action and highlights its distinctive combat presentation. The sweeping attacks appear designed to handle multiple enemies while elemental effects provide additional visual impact.
Players who enjoy melee-focused builds will have another compelling option to explore once the full release arrives.
Acts 5 and 6 Expand the Story
Two new acts are also included in the launch. Acts 5 and 6 will complete the initial campaign and provide the remaining chapters of the storyline.
For existing players, these acts offer new content after the Early Access campaign. They should also introduce additional environments, enemies, encounters, and progression opportunities.
New players will be able to experience a significantly more complete campaign from the start rather than waiting for future additions.
Quality-of-Life Features Matter
The full release includes improvements beyond major content additions. Additional language localization is planned, expanding accessibility for international players.
The ability to switch between keyboard and controller instantly is another useful feature. Players who enjoy using different input methods will be able to change their setup more conveniently.
While these improvements may not be as flashy as a new class, they can make everyday gameplay smoother.
The Free-to-Play Model
Version 1.0 will also establish the game's free-to-play live-service model. The base game will be available without an upfront purchase, while optional monetization will remain part of the service.
This approach should make it easier for curious players to try Path of Exile 2 after launch.
The change could also bring a new wave of players into the community, creating a different environment from the smaller Early Access population.
Registration Rewards
Players can currently pre-register for the official launch. Participation milestones can unlock cosmetic rewards.
The listed rewards include the Ghostflame Helmet Attachment, Ghostflame Weapon Effect, Ghostflame Portal, Chained Chimera Wings, and Scourgeborn Boar Pet.
These cosmetics offer an additional bonus for players who register before the launch.
ExileCon Will Reveal More
Grinding Gear Games has also confirmed that more information about Path of Exile 2 will be shared during ExileCon in November.
That presentation could be especially important for players trying to understand what comes after Version 1.0. A live-service game is expected to continue evolving, so the studio's post-launch plans will be closely watched.
Learn the Currency System
Players preparing for the full release should spend some time reviewing crafting and item modification systems. Understanding the purpose of different resources can make progression much more efficient.
For players researching POE 2 Jeweller's Orb, learning how it fits into equipment customization can help them make better decisions when upgrading gear.
Get Ready for December
Version 1.0 will be a significant expansion of the Path of Exile 2 experience, combining a new class with two campaign acts and several system improvements.
Players should also familiarize themselves with POE 2 Orb of Alchemy and other important crafting resources before launch. With the December 12 release confirmed and ExileCon approaching, the final stretch toward Version 1.0 should be packed with useful information.
