Sunder is back on the PoE1 radar before 3.29, and the Hollow Palm Slayer version has a good reason to attract attention. The test build reached about 8.7 million estimated DPS, around 90,000 effective health, 68% attack block, 65% spell block, 14,000 evasion, and 15,000 armour without flasks. Those numbers look tidy on paper, but the real appeal is how the pieces work together. If you are planning your gear around POE currency, this build gives you several useful upgrade steps instead of demanding one perfect item on day one.
There is an important correction to keep in mind. An extra guard skill had been left active in the first version of the test, so the realistic figures are closer to 90,000 effective health and an 8,800 physical maximum hit. Boss damage also appears nearer 7.8 million once temporary mapping effects and flask conditions are removed. That is still plenty for serious content, but it is not a licence to stand in every slam. Sunder feels safer because the wave reaches enemies before you fully commit to the pack, while block, evasion, armour and Slayer leech cover the moments when you do have to stop.
Where the Damage and Defence Actually Come From| Hollow Palm Sunder | 7.8-8.7 million | Fast mapping and solid bossing |
| Earlier mixed Slayer | About 4.1 million combined | Sunder, Cyclone and Shockwave package |
Hollow Palm turns Dexterity into the main damage engine, so the build wants attribute-heavy gear rather than a costly weapon. Sunder then uses that physical scaling in a way that rewards enemy density. One wave can travel through a group, and struck enemies can create extra shockwaves. You will notice the difference in breaches and packed maps first. Bosses are less generous. There are fewer targets, kill-based buffs drop away, and every slam needs better timing.
Attack speed has a catch here. Sunder only keeps one travelling wave active, and using the skill again replaces the previous one. More attacks help with responsiveness, but blindly stacking speed can make the skill feel rushed. Multistrike may show a bigger number in a planner, yet many players find it awkward because it interrupts the natural wave rhythm. A steady hit, a reposition, then another hit often plays better. The build also needs stun protection, since one bad stun in a dense altar encounter can undo all those defensive layers.
This is better viewed as a day-two or day-three transition than a true first-hour starter. Level with a normal physical weapon, gather Dexterity gear, and switch once One With Nothing and your resistances are ready. Expensive jewels such as Light of Meaning can wait. Stormshroud is useful, but temporary ailment solutions can carry the character while prices settle. The concept remains attractive because it scales in stages: first the slam, then the attributes, then block and leech, and only later the premium damage pieces. With sensible spending on cheap Path of exile currency, Hollow Palm Sunder Slayer looks like a strong mapper with respectable boss damage, provided you respect its attack timing and physical hit limit.
